She has been a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (the largest dog trainer member organization in the world) since 2000, routinely attending their annual conferences for continuing education. Kim was one of the first trainers in North Carolina to acquire her international/national certification (CPDT-KA) in 2002, and one of the first consultants in the state to receive her international/national certification (CDBC) in 2006. Kim has offered behavior consultations at two veterinary practices in Asheville since 2007, and opened the city’s first Behavior Center in 2009 offering expanded services and behavior treatments. She has been a voice in the WNC community for dog-friendly training practices for almost a decade, and was honored to be chosen as the Association of Pet Dog Trainers O
utstanding Trainer of the Year 2009.
Kim has earned a reputation as the prominent resource in the community for owners seeking the most cutting edge, scientific, effective, and compassionate help with their dogs’ behavior problems. While Kim Brophey offers general training in basic manners, behavior problem solving, and puppy development, she specializes in accurately identifying and effectively addressing more serious and complex behavioral issues as aggression and anxiety/fear. Kim is dedicated to helping owners understand and enjoy their dogs through her down-to-earth, scientific yet common-sense, practical and realistic approach to the human-canine relationship in the 21st century. She is regularly moved by the tremendous changes that occur in her clients and their dogs (and in their relationships) that result from access to good information, advice, and training.
Kim is frequently called on to speak at local colleges, veterinary facilities, and other animal interest groups and works very closely wit

h veterinarians and rescue organizations. This year Kim was asked to be the keynote speaker for Camp Unleashed (MA and NC) and was both thrilled and moved by this opportunity to be involved in such a revolutionary project.
Kim Brophey, in collaboration with AB Tech Community College’s Occupational Training/ Continuing Education Department and Veterinary Technician Department, is now offering expanded educational opportunities to pet professionals in the region. Starting in the Fall of 2010, there will be a number of courses available for veterinarians, veterinary technicians, vet hospital staff, dog trainers, shelter & rescue workers, groomers, kennel and daycare operators, animal assisted activities/therapy volunteers and professionals, and competitors/enthusiasts. These courses will provide a rare opportunity for WNC residents to raise the standards of education and practice in the pet professions, setting a national example of a community committed to excellence – one whose members are collectively working for the benefit of companion animals and those who work with them.
